| As you grow up, you realize certain lessons you were taught in childhood might not be the best for you. I grew in a pastors home all my life. I aslo grew up in the dirty south. With these two things combined, one could deduct that i grew up in a traditional sometimes legalist home.
My parents were great and very loving. But some lessons i learned came from actions i saw, not necessarily biblical principles. Please hear me on this...i love my parents and a girl couldn't ask for better ones. They were just a product of their environment as well and unfortunately that environment was also traditional and legalist at times.
Things i was taught (sometimes by others than my parents) that have personally changed: Drinking and smoking does not send you to hell...but the motives in which you do it may not be healthy Listening to anything other than christian music does not send you to hell There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to the movies (or the "picture show") Homosexuals are people too with the same dreams as the next person. It is also okay to be friends with them. What you wear and what you may look like on the outside should not deem you to a certain social rank.
I say all this to say...despite all of these lessons, there are some principles that i have clung onto from my childhood and have learned on my own with my own seeking out and my own set of beliefs.
I do not believe abortion is right. This belief has not changed in my life and never will I believe this for a few reasons: 1) If we allow ourselves to start devaluing life, we also start to devalue relationships and unfortuantely oursleves 2) Making a mere decision to start or stop life (whether it is alive or not can be debated, but no one can debate that if you dont stop it, it will be a life) is not and should not be in our own hands. 3) The God that I proudly serve who is also my friend has proven in my life and the lives of those around me that he can make horrible situations into something absolutley beautiful! I also understand that this stamp of belief puts me in the catagory with some losers that, in the name of God, carry out really bone-headed and uncompassionate acts. But if my stamp of belief puts me in this catagory then so be, because im afraid the alternative is frightening.
At 27, there are many things that i do not believe from childhood...but i hold onto this belief. I challenge you to find out for yourself what you believe and do not believe and then make sure that it lines up with your life not the life you've been told you should have. Make sure your beliefs come from you and your life not bitterness or hurts (legitimate or not) in your life. I love all of you in my life and no matter what you or i believe, i hold your friendship dear to my heart.

| Long time, no post,, huh? I just got back from Portugal and had an amazing time! We worked with Michael McNamee and had a blast. If any of you know him, you know that you can't NOT have a fun time with him! For all of you sticking with xanga, let me be the first to say how proud i am of you. I have truly tried myspace and basically i am a retard even after being shown how to use it. So i will keep trying but i will still use my first love, xanga! I just finished reading Da Vinci Code and now want to see the movie although i have heard it's not as good as the book. i really enjoyed the book! | | |
